Saving money can be fun once you know where to look and how to do it. There are a few primary principles to remember when it comes to saving money.
1. You must first live within or below your means.
This means if your net income is $1000 you need to live off of $900 or less.
2. Determine what is necessary for your daily life.
Remember the camping analogy? Determine what you need to live if no one else is watching. When you understand your needs it is easier to live within them.
3. Reduce your dependence.
Reduce your dependence on goods and services. Just because something is advertised or offered does not mean you should purchase or subscribe to it. If you decide to only borrow movies and music from your local library, or free online services, you will not need a subscription to a streaming service.
4. Buy used whenever possible.
There are many items besides cars which we can buy used and save big.
If you live by these principles, you will become frugal by nature.
